Leading Through Supervision: Earn Your End-of-Year CEUs With Headstart Health
The end of the year will be here before you know it. If you still have CEUs to complete before closing out 2026, now is a great time to get them on your calendar.
This fall, Headstart Health is launching Leading Through Supervision, a virtual CEU series designed for BCBAs who supervise RBTs and clinical staff. Our next three sessions will take place in October, November, and December, giving you three opportunities to continue building your supervision skills while working toward your end-of-year CEU goals.
Strong clinical skills are essential to being a BCBA. But when BCBAs step into supervisory roles, clinical expertise is only part of the equation.
Supervising RBTs and clinical staff means setting clear expectations, identifying why performance breaks down, providing effective feedback, developing team members, and evaluating how your own behavior as a supervisor impacts the people you lead.
Those skills do not always come with a clear roadmap.
Leading Through Supervision is designed to help BCBAs approach supervision with the same behavior-analytic thinking they bring to clinical care.
Rather than treating supervision as a collection of isolated conversations or performance reviews, this eight-part series looks at supervision as a complete system. Across the series, we’ll explore how BCBAs can define quality, diagnose barriers, teach and give feedback, measure change, develop their teams, and examine their own effectiveness as leaders.
Each live virtual session is designed at the intermediate level and is planned to offer 1.0 Supervision CEU, making it easy to continue your professional development before the year comes to a close.
October 28 at 11 AM EST: Supervision as a System
Quality supervision is about more than observing treatment and correcting errors when they happen. Effective supervisors need a framework for understanding what good performance looks like, how to support it, and how their own actions influence outcomes.
In Supervision as a System, we’ll introduce a full supervision lifecycle built around four areas: WHAT, HOW, GROWTH, and LEADER.
BCBAs will learn how to analyze supervision challenges across each stage of the lifecycle, select objective measures for supervisee and supervisor performance, and begin thinking about supervision as an interconnected system rather than a series of individual tasks.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
Describe the four parts of the supervision system: WHAT, HOW, GROWTH, and LEADER.
Analyze a supervision vignette across the stages of the supervision lifecycle.
Select objective measures for both supervisee performance and supervisor performance.

November 18 at 11 AM EST: Defining Quality Before Evaluating Performance
What does “good performance” actually look like?
Terms like professional, engaged, prepared, or high quality may make sense in conversation, but they can become difficult to evaluate when different supervisors interpret them differently.
Before we can effectively evaluate performance, we need to clearly define it.
In Defining Quality Before Evaluating Performance, we’ll explore how BCBAs can turn clinical quality and professionalism into observable, teachable, and culturally responsive criteria.
Participants will also learn how to create greater consistency across supervisors and settings so that RBTs and clinical staff have a clearer understanding of what is expected of them.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
Distinguish clinical implementation standards from professional behavior standards.
Rewrite vague performance expectations as observable, teachable criteria.
Build a calibration plan for using checklists consistently across supervisors and contexts.

December 16 at 11 AM EST: Diagnosing Performance Problems
When someone on your team is struggling, the instinct may be to provide more training, more reminders, or more feedback.
But more feedback is not always the right intervention.
Just as BCBAs would not select a clinical intervention without first understanding the variables influencing behavior, supervisors need to understand why a performance problem is occurring before deciding how to address it.
In Diagnosing Performance Problems, we’ll focus on defining performance gaps, identifying plausible environmental variables, and selecting support strategies that match the actual barrier to performance.
Participants will also explore how the PDC-HS can help bring greater structure to performance assessment and decision-making.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
Write a precise performance-gap statement using observation, context, and criterion.
Use PDC-HS domains to identify plausible environmental variables affecting performance.
Select a support strategy that matches the assessed performance variable and measurement plan.

Don't Wait Until the Last Minute for Your End-of-Year CEUs
December has a way of arriving quickly, and scrambling to find CEU opportunities at the end of the year is probably not how you want to spend your holiday season.
With sessions scheduled throughout October, November, and December, Leading Through Supervision gives you three opportunities to continue earning CEUs while building practical skills you can apply directly to your work as a supervisor.
Whether you are supervising your first RBT, managing an established clinical team, or building an independent ABA practice of your own, the series is designed to help you become more intentional about the systems you create for the people you lead.
Upcoming Sessions
October 28: Supervision as a System
November 18: Defining Quality Before Evaluating Performance
December 16: Diagnosing Performance Problems
All sessions begin at 11 AM EST, are held virtually, and are planned to offer 1.0 Supervision CEU per session.
